A recent Taylor Nicole Rogers piece for the Financial Times highlighting Black women entrepreneurs featured both a Next Street small business client and a recently published small business ecosystem report.

The piece profiles Dawn Kelly and her juice bar in Queens, The Nourish Spot. Dawn left her full-time job in 2017 to start her own business, reflective of a much larger trend: Black women are the fastest-growing demographic of entrepreneurs in the U.S. Next Street worked with Dawn through the Small Business Support Center in Queens to connect her with a pro bono legal consultation.

The piece also references Next Street’s New York City Small Business Ecosystem Assessment when discussing the gap in lenders in historically black neighborhoods such as the Bronx and eastern Brooklyn.
