Stephen Nunes is a Partner in Next Street’s New York office, where he leads Next Street’s Product team that is focused on creating products and solutions that support small businesses systemically held back at scale. While at Next Street, Stephen has helped oversee the launch of a responsible capital marketplace, innovative financing partnerships with mission-driven lenders like Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), and design local ecosystem programs that deliver financing and technical assistance to small businesses through networks of trusted advisors.

Prior to joining Next Street, Stephen worked as a Director for UBS AG in the Investment Banking division where he focused on providing corporations in the natural resources sector with M&A advisory services and financing solutions. While at UBS, Stephen also collaborated with the firms’ Wealth Management division as part of its initiative to improve the availability of impact investments to UBS’ network of retail clients by helping develop a due diligence framework to verify that private fund managers meet UBS’ criteria to be considered an impact investment.

Stephen graduated from Bates College with a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Physics and Mathematics.

Growing up with parents engaged in place-based community development inspired me to find a full-time career that intentionally focuses on helping the under-served and working at Next Street empowers me to do that every day.

Stephen leads our Product team, creating solutions that connect small businesses with the right resources at the right time. Outside of Next Street, Stephen runs Search Scuba, putting hundreds of scuba dive shops within reach.

Outside of Next Street

When he’s not at work, Stephen enjoys hiking the Hudson Valley, volunteering with education programs for at-risk youth, watching sports, and binging Netflix shows.
