Sumaila is a Senior Manager on Next Street’s Delivery team. She is a designer, planner and entrepreneur with local and international experience in the public and private sector. In New York, she directed a sophisticated and impactful pilot program – the Hurricane Sandy Storefront Program – within the New York City Department of Small Business Services. The program prioritized expedited storefront renovation and critically assisted clusters of small businesses in minority and distressed areas contributing to commercial revitalization. Sumaila’s expertise includes stakeholder engagement, user analysis, project management and design thinking. Prior to Next Street, she led innovative institutional change as the Head of the Department of Architecture at the Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture in Pakistan. In this capacity, Sumaila was a thought leader while educating students on the intersection of design and community development.
